Brian Michael Miller is charged with 16 counts, including first-degree murder, second-degree murder and manslaughter in the death of Logan Sellers, according to court documents.

A Hagerstown man charged in the death of a 2-year-old boy last year pleaded guilty Tuesday in Washington County Circuit Court to a charge of first-degree child abuse resulting in death.

Brian Michael Miller, 34, formerly of 360 Buena Vista Ave., also pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree child abuse.

Miller initially was charged with 16 counts, including first-degree murder, second-degree murder and manslaughter in the death of Logan Sellers. Most of those charges were dropped under the plea agreement.

Washington County Assistant State’s Attorney Brett Wilson said after the plea hearing that Miller’s sentencing had not been scheduled.

Miller faces a maximum of 65 years in prison.

Many of the people who attended the hearing wore green T-shirts that were printed on the front with the slogan “Justice for Logan.” Some cried as details of the case were discussed in court.

Miller softly replied, “Yes, sir,” as he was asked by Washington County Circuit Judge John H. McDowell whether he voluntarily agreed to enter the guilty pleas to the three counts.

Wilson told McDowell the investigation began Oct. 5, 2011, when police were called to Meritus Medical Center east of Hagerstown for a report of an unresponsive 2-year-old.

The investigation determined that Logan struck his head when Miller got angry and pushed him to the floor of the home Miller shared with the boy’s mother at 360 Buena Vista Ave.

Miller called 911 when he noticed Logan had stopped breathing, according to court documents. The child was taken to Meritus Medical Center, then transferred to Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

The child died Oct. 10.

“His body had shut down,” Wilson said.

Wilson said an autopsy conducted by medical officials in Washington, D.C., showed the child died of traumatic brain injuries.

Wilson told McDowell that Miller had a history of harming Logan.

He said Miller also admitted to abusing Logan at the home of one of the boy’s relatives at 133 McComas St.

Wilson said that on one occasion, Miller tried to cover up the abuse by saying Logan fell down a flight of stairs when he was knocked down by dogs.

Logan’s mother, Amanda Sellers, was attending classes at Award Beauty School in Hagerstown when the Oct. 5 incident occurred, Wilson said.

Miller is being held in the Washington County Detention Center.
