Rock festival to benefit the Potomac River

“Rockin’ at River Bottom” will be held Saturday at Williamsport’s River Bottom Park. The rock festival is a fundraiser to benefit the Potomac River.

Gates open at 9 a.m. and close at 9 p.m.

Five rock bands are scheduled to perform. The Edmund Allan Brown Band kicks off the event at 11 a.m. Crush Theory performs at 1 p.m., Calisus at 3 p.m., Charm City Devils at 5 p.m. and Rhino Bucket at 7 p.m. (the times are approximate due to band setups).

Food will be available for purchase, including breakfast and chicken dinners. There will be a beer garden.

Blankets and lawn chairs are recommended. No coolers or brought-in food will be permitted. Cameras and cellphones are allowed. There will only be pedestrian traffic into the park.

Tickets cost $10 in advance or $15 at the gate. Advance tickets can be bought at town halls in Boonsboro, Clear Spring, Smithsburg and Williamsport and in Hagerstown at Rentals Unlimited.

All proceeds will be shared by the participating municipalities to fight pollution in the Potomac River.

WHS Class of 1962

Williamsport High School’s Class of 1962 will hold its 50th reunion this weekend. The class will meet Friday at Nick’s Airport Inn in Hagerstown. On Saturday, the class will hold a casual get-together at Williams-port American Legion Post 202, beginning at 3 p.m.

Yard sale planned

Providing Relief for Autistic Youth Inc., or PRAY, will hold its annual yard and bake sale Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 20301 Barbara Drive in Hagerstown.

There will be adult and children’s clothing, home décor items, books, toys, furniture and baked goods for sale.

Diabetic classes canceled

The monthly diabetic and nutrition classes at Williamsport’s senior site at 220 Ortho Holland Drive have been canceled until further notice.

CURVES of Williamsport

On Saturday, CURVES of Williamsport, will hold a 5-mile walk around Williamsport. The public is invited. The group plans to leave from 10210 Governor Lane Boulevard at 8 a.m.

There will be a free weight management class Tuesday, Sept. 18, from 6 to 7 p.m. It is open to anyone interested. Light refreshments will be served.

Garden Club to meet

The Potomac Garden Club will meet Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 12:30 p.m. in the reception hall at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church to begin its new year.

Members should bring a canned or fresh food item for the food bank, as well as a plant or seeds to exchange. Dues will be collected and the 2012-13 yearbook will be distributed.

Clothes of Hope schedule

Clothes of Hope Ministries at Williamsport United Methodist Church, 25 E. Church St., provides gently used and some new clothing. It will be open from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. this Thursday and Monday, Sept. 24. It will be open from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20 and Thursday, Sept. 27.

There is no charge for clothing. Monetary donations are accepted.
