Gary Melvin Jennings, 66, of Hagerstown, Md., died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, at Meritus Medical Center.

Born Nov. 21, 1945, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Melvin C. and Edna N. Drenner Jennings.

Gary was a 1964 graduate of North Hagerstown High School.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.

He was employed as a correctional officer with the state of Maryland at MCTC for 18 years. He was currently employed by the Washington County Sheriff’s Department working with courthouse security.

He was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church in Marlowe, W.Va.

Gary was a member of Morris Frock American Legion Post 42, AMVETS Post 38, The Improved Order of Red Men Tribe 84 in Williamsport and a life member of VFW Post 38.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Cheryl Ann Jennings; a sister, Jacqueline Powell of Falling Waters, W.Va.; a brother, Jimmie Jennings and wife, Deanna, of Hagerstown; brother and sister-in-law, Terry and Linda Forrest of Falling Waters; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Jennings.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Randall Reid will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. Military graveside services will be conducted by Washington County AMVETS Post 10 and Marine Corps League of Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Tuesday at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m.
