Mary Frances Black, 60, of Clear Spring, Md. , passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, at her home in the arms of her loving husband and best friend, Doug.

Born May 21, 1952, in Hagerstown, Md., she is the daughter of Mary Shirk Myers of Williamsport and the late James Myers.

She was a 1970 graduate of Clear Spring High School.

Mary worked as an instructional assistant at Hancock Middle-Senior High School for 19 years, and then volunteered and became employed for two years at Clear Spring schools.

She belonged to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Clear Spring, where she served as the church treasurer for many years and was active in many different areas throughout the years.

To all who knew her, she was a great server and a kindhearted giver. She not only showed this to her family, but to all who knew her. 

She was an avid blood donor to the American Red Cross. She was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Maryland Retired Teachers Association.

Mary Frances will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 40 years, Douglas W. Black of Clear Spring; her children, Arin Knotts and husband, Randy, of Clear Spring, and son Chris Black and wife, Erin, of Williamsport. She greatly loved her family and was especially proud of her three grandchildren, Kira Knotts, Keely Knotts and Maddux Black.

A celebration of her life will be held Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. Elaine Swinehart and the Rev. Steve McCarty will officiate. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends at Thompson Funeral Home Inc., Clear Spring, on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. For the convenience of friends, you may visit the funeral home after 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ALS online at; ALS Association, 7507 Standish Place, Rockville, MD 20855; or to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
