September 08, 2012

HANCOCK — A 52-year-old Indiana man was killed overnight in a head-on collision between his vehicle and a tractor-trailer on Interstate 70 at mile marker 6 east of Hancock, Maryland State Police said in a news release.

David R. Kassing, of Carmel, Ind., was driving a 2011 Porsche west at a high rate of speed, when he lost control of the vehicle, crossed the median and entered the eastbound lane of the highway at about 12:30 a.m., police said.

Kassing's vehicle hit a 2004 Volvo tractor-trailer being driven by Delwin Laray Martin, 30, of Hagerstown, police said.

"Both the tractor-trailer and the Porsche caught fire during the collision," police wrote in the news release.

Police said Kassing was killed on impact and Martin refused medical treatement at the same.

Both lanes of I-70 remained closed for several hours. Crews were detouring traffic onto Md. 615.
