Franklin E. "Ernie" Barnhart, 80, of Clear Spring, Md., died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012.
Born Sept. 18, 1931, in Gaithersburg, Md., he was the son of the late Frank and Zulie Phipps Barnhart.
He attended Welty Church of the Brethren in Greensburg, Md.
For a short period, Ernie worked in Florida for a commercial contractor. He was a dairy farmer all his life except for a few years when he was into trucking for Frye Coal and Stone Co. and Pinesburg Quarry.
He loved to travel and spend time at the river with family and friends, boating and water skiing. He traveled the fields on his Polaris with his best friend, Foxy (little dog), by his side.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Fae J. Frey Barnhart of Clear Spring. They were married Nov. 24, 1960, at Welty Church of the Brethren by the Rev. Glenn Heckman. He has two sons, Ernest Wayne Barnhart and wife, Kendra, of Clear Spring, and Timothy L. Barnhart of Clear Spring; two granddaughters, Jennifer and Jessica Barnhart; and numerous cousins.
Services will be Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Welty Church of the Brethren, 13465 Greensburg Road, Smithsburg, Md. The Rev. Mike Manthos and the Rev. James Dodge will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. For your convenience, you may visit the funeral home Monday after noon.
