Classic car cruise-in is scheduled for Friday

The September Williamsport classic car cruise-in is scheduled Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. on two blocks of Conococheague Street.

Classic cars can enter from either end of Salisbury Street.

A 6-foot People’s Choice trophy will be awarded.

The band Chubby will entertain. There will also be a 50/50 drawing and door prizes.

A $3 donation is requested for car entry. All proceeds benefit the Williamsport Food Bank.

Rock festival is selling tickets in advance

Tickets are now on sale for Rockin’ at River Bottom, an all-day rock festival at the Williamsport River Bottom on Sept. 15 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.


Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the gate. Advance tickets can be bought at town halls in Boonsboro, Clear Spring, Smithsburg and Williamsport. They can also be bought in Williamsport at the
Desert Rose Cafe, Harley-Davidson of Williamsport, Reptile Crib, Third Base and Tony’s Pizza Time Cafe, and in Hagerstown at Rentals, Unlimited. To purchase tickets online, go to

All proceeds will be shared by the participating municipalities to fight the pollution of the Potomac River and its tributaries.

Diabetic, nutrition classes scheduled in Williamsport

The Washington County Commission on Aging is providing monthly diabetic and nutrition classes on the third Monday of each month from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Williamsport Senior Site, 220 Ortho Holland Drive.

Louise Wyant, R.N., will conduct the informative sessions regarding diabetic issues. You do not have to be diabetic to attend. Classes are free and open to the public. The next scheduled class will be Sept. 17.

County recreation to hold fall exercise classes

The Washington County Recreation Department has scheduled fall exercise classes at 4-Star Athletic Complex, 30 Milestone Drive.

Adults young and old can define a personal workout to suit their fitness needs. Participants will improve flexibility and learn toning techniques. Morning classes will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from Sept. 11 to Dec. 6. Evening classes will be Mondays and Wednesdays from Sept. 10 to Dec. 5 at 6 to 7 p.m.

The cost is $45 for county residents, $55 for nonresidents and $36 for senior citizens 55 and older.

Add some Latin flavor to your exercise routine with drop-in Zumba classes on Tuesday and Thursday each week from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. The fee is $2 per class, paid each time you attend.

Williamsport town meeting set for Monday

A public meeting is scheduled Monday at 6:45 p.m., at Town Hall.

The subject will be whether or not Williamsport should increase connection fees for water and sewer for new construction only.

Williamsport library holds successful sale

The book sale committee at Williamsport Memorial Library appreciates all the patrons who made their 2012 book sale such a success. The monies earned will enable them to give three scholarships to local students for college and to support the town library’s programs and general expenses.

The committee is currently accepting gently used book donations during regular business hours from September until the end of July 2013. Do not bring water-damaged or moldy books, textbooks,encyclopedias, or magazines.

Williamsport High alumni soccer game scheduled

The Williamsport High School boys’ soccer team will hold its third annual Alumni Soccer Game fundraiser on Sept. 21, to benefit CARES of Washington County (Alzheimer’s Association).

WHS alumni players may email Coach Downs at to register to play.

The registration fee is $30. Players will receive a game night T-shirt.

There is no charge to attend the game. Donations will be accepted at the gate.

Fundraising activities will include a silent auction, raffles and an alumni game ball raffle. Food will be available for purchase at the Wildcat Concession Stand.

Rain date is Sept. 28.
