Prescription abuse seminars begin Sept. 5

Two seminars on prescription medication abuse will be this month, at Robinwood Professional Center, Newman Auditorium, Room 142, 11110 Medical Campus Road, east of Hagerstown.

The first seminar is Prescription Medication Abuse in Children and Adolescents from 5 to 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5.

The second seminar will be from 5 to 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25. and will focus on Prescription Mediciation Abuse in Adults. Child and adolescent psychiatrist Dr. Angela Dumitrache will be the presenter.

Meritus Health, Washington County Health Department, Washington County Drug & Alcohol Abuse Council & Brook Lane are sponsoring the events.

These seminars will discuss this trend as it pertains to the community and focus on appropriate dispensing and disposal of prescription medication, identifying patients at risk for abuse, assessing for signs and symptoms of abuse, and effective treatment options for addiction.

Continuing education credits will be awarded for physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, psychologists, social workers, counselors and other professionals.  The fee for each program is $25. For more information, call 301-733-0331, ext. 189.
