Reginald F. Lewis Falcons at North Hagerstown Hubs

When: Friday, 7 p.m.

Series: First meeting.

Last week: This is the season opener for both teams.

Notes: The Falcons are coming off an 8-2 season, with just one defeat — a 52-16 loss to Overlea in the Class 1A North playoffs — coming on the field. They forfeited a Week 2 win against Forest Park. … The Hubs finished 7-3 in 2011, missing out on the Class 3A West playoffs with a loss to South Hagerstown in Week 10. … The Hubs scored 336 points last season, fourth-most in school history. The Hubs have scored more than 300 points five times in the last nine seasons. … The Hubs have posted back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 2003-04. … North coach Dan Cunningham (63-52 career record) needs seven victories to surpass Glenn Cross as the school’s all-time wins leader.

Berkeley Springs Indians (0-1) at South Hagerstown Rebels

Series: South Hagerstown leads, 4-1.

Last week: The Indians lost to Clarke County, 40-0. … This is the season opener for the Rebels.

Notes: The Rebels have won the last four games in the series. … Brady Tritapoe rushed for 47 yards for the Indians in the loss to Clarke County. … The Rebels tied a school record for points scored in a single game in the win over Berkeley Springs last season, and the 52-point winning margin was the second largest in school history. … The Rebels, who went 7-3 in 2011, are seeking their first back-to-back winning seasons since 2000-01. … Toby Peer’s 12 wins in his first two seasons at South is the best start in school history.

Northern Garrett Huskies at Smithsburg Leopards

Notes: The Leopards have won the last eight meetings in the series. Northern’s only win in the series was an 8-7 victory in the 1992 playoffs. … The Huskies are coming off a 6-4 season in 2011. … The Leopards finished 3-7 after a 2-0 start in 2011, ending a streak of four straight Class 1A West playoff appearances. … Smithsburg coach Buddy Orndorff (73 wins) is sixth all-time in Washington County coaching victories.

Liberty Lions at Williamsport Wildcats

Series: Liberty leads, 3-0.

Last meeting: 2011 — Liberty, 20-12.

Notes: The Lions are coming off a 4-6 season in 2011. … The Wildcats went 5-6 in 2011 and made the school’s first-ever playoff appearance. … Williamsport coach Randy Longnecker has led the Wildcats to five wins in two of his three seasons after the program had not won more than four games in the previous nine seasons.

Boonsboro Warriors at North Carroll Panthers

When: Friday, 7 p.m.

Series: Boonsboro leads, 11-6.

Last meeting: 2011 — Boonsboro, 21-12.

Last week: This is the season opener for both teams.

Notes: The Warriors went 10-2 in 2011 and advanced to the Class 1A West final. … The Warriors’ playoff win over Mountain Ridge was the first postseason win by a Washington County team since 2006 (North Hagerstown). … Boonsboro coach Clayton Anders is second on the county’s all-time coaching victories list with 162 wins. … The Panthers were 2-8 in 2011.

Hancock Panthers at Saint James Saints

When: Saturday, 2:30 p.m.

Series: Saint James leads, 17-4.

Last meeting: 2011 — Saint James, 21-4.

Notes: This is the season opener for both teams. … The Saints have won the last 10 meetings in the series. … The Panthers went 3-6 last season. They are chasing their first winning season since going 9-2 in 2004. … The Saints lost eight straight after beating Hancock in their season opener last season, finishing 1-8. It was the Saints’ fewest wins since they went 1-8 in 2003.

Fairfield Knights at Clear Spring Blazers

When: Saturday, 7 p.m.

Series: Clear Spring leads, 1-0.

Last meeting: 2011 — Clear Spring, 41-12.

Notes: The Knights open the 2012 season on a 29-game losing streak. Their last victory came in the final game of the 2008 season, a 19-6 win over York Tech. … After just three wins in the first five years of the Clear Spring program, the Blazers posted their third straight season with four or more wins, going 4-6 in 2011. … The Blazers’ win over Fairfield last season was their first of three games scoring more than 40 points.
