1. A day at the fort to enjoy nature

Nature Holiday Weekend will be from Saturday, Sept. 1, through Monday, Sept. 3, at Fort Frederick State Park, 11100 Fort Frederick Road, Big Pool.  Saturday’s activities include: children’s nature stories and crafts, 11 a.m.; aquatic life and water quality of the Potomac, a presentation at the river’s side, 1 p.m.; Wild Fruits and Seeds of Autumn, naturalist-led walk, 4 p.m.; Things that Go Bump in the Night, guided night-hike, 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2: nature crafts for children, 11 a.m.; children’s story hour, featuring a reading of “The Little Red Bat,” 1 p.m.; how to create a butterfly/hummingbird garden, 3 p.m.; how to create a backyard habitat for wildlife, 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 3: ranger-led Beaver Pond walk, 11 a.m.; talk on what it’s like to be a park ranger, 1 p.m.; interactive presentation on the diet of an owl, 2 p.m. $3 service charge per vehicle for Maryland residents; $5 for nonresidents. 2. Exploring art in the park
Art in the Park will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, at Berkeley Springs State Park, downtown Berkeley Springs, W.Va., across from the farmers’ market. 3. A stamp for your passport
2012 South Mountain Outdoors Passport stop will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, at Allison-Antrim Museum, 365 S. Ridge Ave., Greencastle, Pa. A re-enactor portraying Greencastle’s Civil War heroine, Dolly Harris, will greet visitors and tell her story of confronting Gen. George Pickett and his men. 4. Rockin’ like it’s the 1980s
