“Every day when you pick up the paper now, there’s been a fatal accident in the Tri-State area. I just wonder what’s going on.”
“Concerning building a new baseball stadium in Hagerstown, the old Central Chemical site, which was cleaned up with federal superfund money, and the old New York Central Iron Works, are in the city, may be owned by the city, and would make an excellent location. In addition, the shopping center only has one store in it. I think this should be thought about, in lieu of tearing down the middle of downtown Hagerstown.”

“I agree with the recent caller that you can’t legislate the poor into prosperity by tapping the wealthy. However, you can legislate the wealthy to pay their fair share to our schools, roads and the defense of this nation. Many of them have made huge profits as defense contractors or subcontractors, and paid little or no taxes into the system from which they suck their wealth.”
“We all know that Social Security and Medicare are running out of funds. Now we hear where Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan say that something has to be done now. Well, we know that Paul Ryan had a plan which would not affect any seniors 55 and over, but would change the plan so it would be there for everyone, but we know that the Democrats said he was pushing Granny off the cliff. Tell me what President Obama’s plan would do to try to save Medicare, or is he just thinking, well, if I get voted in ... I like a leader who is willing to make the tough decisions, whether I like it or not.”
“This is to the caller from Williamsport, about Roscoe Bartlett’s people calling all the time. I received my third phone call yesterday. I was able to redial that phone number, and demanded that they take me off of their list. So if everybody does a callback, sometimes his mailbox is full, but I was lucky to get through, left just my phone number, and told them to remove me from their list.”
“I’m a retired senior citizen, and to make ends meet, I work a part-time job also. It’s time for my tax dollars to stop going to people who don’t work and who can work. This welfare system has gotten out of control. It needs to be reined in. I am really irritated about this. It’s time to stop.”
“I have an idea about what to do about this baseball stadium. The place for it is not in downtown Hagerstown, but they seem to have the most asinine ideas about what to do, like putting the senior center in Robinwood, and putting the baseball stadium in the downtown ... What they should do, if the people that owns the Suns want a ballpark, let them build one, or let them remodel the one that we already have.”

“Franklin County, Pa., is spraying for mosquitoes carrying the West Nile virus. What is Washington County, Md., doing to control the increasing mosquito population? Maybe some of them driven here? We see the dead bird evidence that we likely have a problem. Living close to the Mason-Dixon Line, I really want to know.”
“This is in response to the lady who wears small shoe sizes and can’t find anything in local stores. Have you tried the children’s or girls’ departments? Also, there’s a shoe store in Waynesboro that carries sizes 3 1/2 to 5, in some styles, including Mary Janes and sneakers, and they said they have five ladies who come in for the smaller sizes. I hope this is helpful.”

“It must be election time. Roscoe Bartlett visited the Volvo plant. I worked there over 37 years and I don’t remember him being there, and would never answer any questions posed to him by the union. He must really be afraid of losing this election.”

“There is a lot of incorrect information out there about the proposed stadium project. The current facility is not an option for renovation, according (to) the stadium commission, due to the location. Also, the taxes will not be increased due to the building of the new stadium. For those naysayers, what would you suggest to bring the people and business back downtown? Please visit supportdowntown hagerstown.com for the facts about the proposed stadium before you perpetuate the negative talk. Signed, a proud downtown Hagerstown resident who would like to be able to walk downtown, and spend my time and money.”
“It’s melon season, and I want to pass on a method that’s not infallible, but seems to work very well on watermelons. Check the underside of the melon. If it’s white or pale yellow, it’s not ripe, but if it’s a rich, buttery yellow, it’s a good one. Now does anyone know a good method for cantaloupes and honeydews? Nothing I’ve tried seems to work, including the one that claims the stronger a cantaloupe smells, the riper it is.”
