Thelma Nadine (Gouker) Boward, 100, of Hagerstown, Md., died Monday afternoon, Aug. 27, 2012, at her home.

Born Aug. 19, 1912, in Ellerton, Frederick County, Md., she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Samuel and Laura Odie (Hoover) Gouker.

She was the wife of the late Ralph E. Boward, who died in 1987.

Thelma lived with her grandparents, Curtis and Annie Gouker, for more than 22 years.

She joined Grossnickle Church of the Brethren at age 11 and was baptized in the creek close to the church by the Rev. McKinley Coffman. In 1942, she became a member of Hagerstown Church of the Brethren.

She worked at the Pangborn Corp. in Hagerstown for more than 33 years.

Thelma enjoyed being outdoors, mowing her lawn and raking her leaves.

She loved attending Valley Little League games, where she was her grandson's biggest, littlest fan.

She is survived by a daughter, Judy Miller and husband, Larry; five grandsons, Kenneth Toms and wife, Tara, Chad Toms, Larry Miller Jr., Christopher Miller and Tony Miller; two granddaughters, Lisa Chaney and husband, Michael, and Cheryl Miller; five great-grandchildren, Ronald Harper, Megan Harper, Kyle Toms, Luke Toms and Jordan Kirby; and five great-great-grandchildren, Ethan Harper, Nora Harper, Vincent Wooster, Gabrielle Nadine Harper and Parker Nelling.

In addition to her husband and parents, Thelma was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Rosenbery; five brothers, Atlee Gouker, Kermit Gouker, Mehrle Gouker, Robert Gouker and Leo Gouker; a half sister, Regina Bair; and two half brothers, Gilbert Gouker and Elmer Gouker.

The funeral service will be Friday, Aug. 31, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, Hagerstown. The Rev. Edward Poling will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
