August 28, 2012

KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. — A man was shot in the stomach area during a home invasion on Bunkhouse Road early Monday, according to a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department spokesman.

Three people wearing masks entered an open door at the house at about 1 a.m. and went to a bedroom where the 21-year-old victim was playing video games with two friends, according to Deputy Matthew Armel.

There were three small knocks on the bedroom door and the victim opened it, Armel said.

One of the assailants tried to hit the victim with his hands, Armel said.

When the victim tried to shut the door, one of the assailants, wearing a wolf mask, shot the victim, Armel said.

Armel said a 9 mm casing from a handgun was found in the house.

Lt. Dave Colbert said the victim was taken to City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va., where he was treated for nonlife-threatening injuries.

Bunkhouse Road is near old W.Va. 9 off Border Road.

Armel said Monday night he has not determined a motive for the shooting.
