Button receives leadership award after 29-day Army Reserve course

JOINT BASE LEWIS- MCCORD, Wash. — Preston Button of Hagerstown was presented the Warrior Forge Commanders Leadership Award at the U.S. Cadet Command’s Leader Development and Assessment Course.

Button was ranked No. 1 among more than 200 cadets in his training company at the 29-day leadership course, also known as Operation Warrior Forge, the training and assessment excercise for the Army Reserve Officers Training Corps.

Cadets are tested on their physical stamina, endurance, ability to navigate over difficult terrain, and their team-building and leadership skills. Button earned the award Aug. 3 at graduation at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., and will be presented with the certificate by his professor of military sciences.

Button is a senior at Towson University.

He graduated from North Hagerstown High School in 2009. He received an Army ROTC scholarship.
