Proctor leads Gaels past Indians

Kevin Proctor scored two goals and added an assist as St. Maria Goretti defeated Berkeley Springs 4-1 on Saturday.

Casey Bartholomew and Jordan Patterson each added a goal while Jake Kline had an assists for the Gaels.

Drew Katrina made three saves for Goretti.


Goretti 3, Berkeley Springs 3

Lauree Lorensen scored two goals for St. Maria Goretti in its tie with Berkeley Springs on Saturday.

Alexis Barone had a goal for the Gaels (0-0-2), while Madeline Foland had an assist and Jenna Katrina had nine saves.

Goretti opened its season with a 1-1 tie against Gerstell on Wednesday. Lorensen scored on an assist from Gabrielle Sottile and Megan Rock had five saves for the Gaels.


Faith at SVCA tourney

STEPHENS CITY, W.Va. — Faith Christian finished 1-2 in pool play at Shenandoah Valley Christian School’s Labor Day Classic Tournament. Faith lost 25-15 to host SVCA and 25-16 to Chapelgate Christian Academy (Marriotsville, Md.) and beat Wakefield Country Day School (Flint Hill, Va.) 25-23.

Faith lost its first match in single-elimination bracket play to Grace Christian School (Staunton, Va.) 16-14, 15-12.

Faith’s libero, Michele Brooks, was named to the all-tournament team.

CVCS 3, Broadfording 1

Broadfording lost its season opener Friday at home to Cumberland Valley Christian, 25-12, 25-15, 20-25, 25-13 in Mason Dixon Christian Conference action. No other information was available.
