Wings and Wheels Expo to be Sept. 22

 Wings and Wheels Expo 2012 will be held in conjunction with the Hagerstown Regional Airport open house Saturday, Sept. 22, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the terminal area of the airport on Showalter Road.

The free event will feature a large display of Hagerstown Aviation Museum owned Fairchild aircraft built in Hagerstown, as well as modern aircraft, classic cars, trucks, remote control model aircraft, airplane rides and flight demonstrations.

The open house will include displays from airport businesses, tours of the airport terminal and fire station; firefighter demonstrations; airport maintenance equipment exhibits and private aircraft displays.

 The Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 36 will provide free airplane rides to those ages 8 to 17. Pilots and aircraft owners donate planes, fuel and time to make the flights possible. Other organizations, such as the Civil Air Patrol and the Pegasus Radio Controlled Model Airplane Club, will have exhibits and aircraft on display. Attendees can also about career training opportunities at the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics display.

The wheels component of the Expo will include antique and classic cars, trucks and motorcycles. Free registration for all car show vehicles, and best of show trophies will be awarded. Also see fire, law enforcement, rescue, construction vehicles and historic military vehicles.

The event is sponsored in part by the Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau and Hagerstown Regional Airport.

 Breakfast and lunch will be available from local nonprofits organizations.

Also, the Discovery Station Hangar Fest is scheduled in the Rider Jet Center hangar the evening of Sept. 22, with the band The Reagan Years performing.
