Volunteers needed for re-enactment

Re-enactors for the “Maryland, My Maryland” Battle of Antietam re-enactment in Boonsboro are looking for volunteers to join them Saturday, Sept. 1, to lend a hand with the site preparations.

During the two days of the re-enactment, Sept. 8 and 9, Boonsboro will be the second largest town in Washington County, with close to 6,000 people at the site.

The public will get to see 4,000 troops clash in a re-enactment of the Battle of Antietam.

“The work party will start at 8 a.m. and run until at least noon, weather permitting,” event coordinator Doug Dobbs said. “A lot of it is removing weeds from Confederate and Federal camping areas, so volunteers should bring a weed-wacker.”
