Maugansville Pride Day to take place Sept. 1

Homemade soups and desserts will be available in the Ruritan building, as well as funnel cakes, ice cream, hot dogs, hamburgers, Italian sausage sandwiches, country ham sandwiches and french fries.

There will be games and rides for children. 

Fifty percent of all proceeds will go to the Branch family to assist with medical bills.

Senior Friendship Club plans to meet Sept. 9

The Maugansville Senior Friendship Club will meet at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at Tony’s Restaurant at 14224 Pennsylvania Ave.

There will be an installation of officers for the 2012-13 year. Friends will enjoy a Dutch treat lunch. All are invited and encouraged to bring a friend.

Registration continues

Fall ball registration continues this weekend at Maugansville Little League.

To register your child, go to the press box above the concession stand from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

Registration costs $10. No birth certificates are required. There will be major and minor league teams for those ages 6 to 12. 

There will be an additional sign-up Saturday, Sept. 1, during Maugansville Pride Day. 

The league is accepting players from other leagues.

The fall ball season will begin the second week in September and continue until the end of October.

Benefit auction set for Saturday

Broadfording Church of the Brethren Fellowship, at 14010 Greencastle Pike, will hold its annual benefit auction Saturday. Doors open at 9 a.m.

Soup, sandwiches and baked goods will be offered for sale throughout the day. 

By Faith Gospel Trio will perform at 10 a.m.

A silent auction will begin at 10 a.m. with live bidding starting at 11 a.m.

Items to bid on include two handmade quilts, Longaberger baskets, homemade jelly, candy, relish, salsa, baked goods, household items, jewelry, handcrafted items and gift certificates from local businesses.

Hawaiian breeze dance

The Country Western Dance Association will host a Hawaiian breeze dance Saturday  at the Maugansville Ruritan Community Center at 18007 Maugans Ave. 

The dance will be from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. There will be line dancing for singles and couples. Admission costs $5 for members and $7 for nonmembers.

Those who dress in Hawaiian attire will have an opportunity to be in a contest to win a prize for the best attire.

There will also be line dance classes at St. Joseph’s Church on Virginia Avenue in Halfway Tuesday, Sept. 4, from 7 to 8 p.m. The classes cost $5.

Diabetes Support Group 

The Diabetes Support Group at Potomac Towers will meet Wednesday, Aug. 29, at 1:30 p.m. in the first floor community room.  The program will be “Myths of Diabetes Revealed.”

John Lipscomb from Advanced Diabetic Solutions will be available for diabetic shoe fittings and glucometers. 

The group is open to individuals who live at Potomac Towers as well as anyone in the community. The forum educates individuals with diabetes to help manage their disease and to gain support from others.
