Ruth Evelyn Cozzi, 87, a devoted daughter, wife and mother, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, at Williamsport Nursing Home.

A native of Washington, D.C., Evelyn was a devoted member of Palisades Community Church in Washington for more than 70 years, where she served as chairwoman of the social and memorials committees, as well as being a tireless leader and organizer for many years.

She was a loyal and well-loved employee of Sibley Hospital for more than three decades.

She moved to Williamsport Retirement Village in 2009 to be closer to her son and daughter-in-law. She was a resident of Twin Oaks Assisted Living for two years, then moved to the nursing home after a fall in December 2011.

While at Williamsport Retirement Village, she was under the watchful eye of a professional, caring, loving and patient staff. The treatment of Evelyn and her family was always stellar, from every person we had the pleasure to encounter and work closely with. We are forever grateful. We are also so very grateful to everyone at Washington County Hospice for their love, support and assistance in all areas of her care over the last few years.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Daisy Shipp; her loving husband, Edward Cozzi; her oldest son, Vincent Cozzi; and her sister, Gloria Bowen.

She is survived by her son, Lynn Cozzi and his wife, Kim Athanas; her brothers, Wallace, Ralph and Tom Shipp; and many loving nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

A memorial service will be Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Palisades Community Church, 5200 Cathedral Ave. N.W., Washington. Interment will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Williamsport Retirement Village, 154 N. Artisan St., Williamsport, MD 21795 or Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
