Students to return to Potomack Intermediate School Friday

August 23, 2012

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Students are expected to return to Potomack Intermediate School Friday after a main power switch malfunctioned Wednesday and left the building without electricity for several hours.

The outage, which was a result of a switch gear malfunction, was reported about 4 p.m. Wednesday, Berkeley County Schools Superintendent Manny P. Arvon said Thursday.

With no immediate fix possible, Arvon said he and other officials moved two truckloads of food from the north Berkeley County school at 5308 Williamsport Pike to nearby Spring MIlls Primary School for safekeeping.

Arvon said power wasn’t restored for several hours and he did not get home until after midnight.

The outage occurred shortly after school ended for the day, but Arvon said school officials had a difficult time finding a contractor that was available to assist with the repair.
