Richard Daniel Newlin Sr., 77, of 533 Guilford Ave. in Hagerstown, Md., died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012, at his home.

Born July 13, 1935, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Marion F. and Anna May Sherman Newlin.

He was employed by Statton Furniture for 28 years, retiring in 2002.

He enjoyed bowling with Flying Feathers and Wacky Rollers, and loved fishing, hunting, camping and being with his family.

He attended New Beginnings Community Church in Hagerstown.

Richard is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty Lee Newlin; one daughter, Pamela May Brenner of Great Cacapon, W.Va.; one son, Richard D. Newlin Jr. of Hagerstown; one sister, Hazel Henson of Hagerstown; one brother, Vernon Newlin of Hagerstown; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Brenda Newlin; five sisters; and five brothers.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Mark W. Snyder will officiate. Burial will be in Manor Cemetery, Tilghmanton, Md.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
