A Clear Spring man was in the Washington County Detention Center on Monday, accused of pointing a gun at his ex-wife’s current estranged husband earlier this month, according to Washington County District Court records.
Joshua Jay Weller, 23, of 13609 Blairs Valley Road, had been jailed on $200,000 bond, but it was reduced to $150,000 by District Judge Ralph H. France II at a bond review hearing Monday.
Weller is charged with first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, use of a handgun in a crime of violence, carrying a handgun and having a handgun in a vehicle, court records show.
Hagerstown Police went to the Potomac Avenue home of Clifton L. Barnhart on Aug. 12 after he reported a handgun had been pointed at him from a vehicle, according to the application for statement of charges. Barnhart told police he left the rear entrance of his apartment building and was walking to his vehicle when he saw Weller sitting in a Nissan Frontier on Magnolia Avenue, the document said.
Weller drove the Frontier past Barnhart and pointed a silver revolver at him, the charging document said.
“Bang ... you’re dead,” Weller said to Barnhart before driving off, the charging document said.
Barnhart told police that Weller is the ex-husband of his wife, the charging document said. However, Barnhart is in the process of divorcing his wife, who is back with Weller, the document said.
Assistant Public Defender Catherine Pugh argued for a lower bail, telling France that no weapon was recovered by police and that Weller has no significant criminal history.
