Soccer Club plays in Orlando

The squad played in the 3-on-3 national championships Aug. 2-5 in Orlando. 

The team was ranked ninth out of 13th teams going into the tournament. They were the only team from Maryland. The other teams were from Florida and Georgia.

The Clear Spring team played four games in pool play.

The squad placed fifth out of 13 teams and made it into the gold division. 

The top four teams in the gold and silver divisions won trophies.

The team made it to the gold division’s third-place match and finished fourth. 

The girls received a trophy for their hard work. 

A special thanks to Coach Eric for his time and effort and thanks to the parents who helped make the trip a success. 

The squad would like to especially thank all of its sponsors, families and friends who believed in the girls and made it possible for them to have an enjoyable soccer experience.

Volleyball tryouts start this week

Clear Spring Middle School volleyball tryouts will be held Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Participants must attend all three days.

The schedule is as follows:

  • 6 p.m. — Sixth-graders
  • 7 p.m. — Seventh-graders
  • 8 p.m. — Eighth-graders

The tryouts will be held at Clear Spring Middle School gym. There is a $10 fee.

Participants are asked to arrive Wednesday approximately 20 minutes before the tryout time listed to complete paperwork.

Benefit auction

Broadfording Church of the Brethren Fellowship, at 14010 Greencastle Pike in Cearfoss, will hold its annual benefit auction Saturday.

 Doors open at 9 a.m.

Soup and sandwiches will be offered for sale throughout the day. By Faith Gospel Trio will perform at 10 a.m. A silent auction begins at 10 a.m. with live bidding starting at 11 a.m.

Items to bid on include two handmade quilts, Longaberger baskets, homemade jelly, candy, relish, salsa, and baked goods, household items, jewelry, handcrafted items, many new items and gift certificates from local businesses.

Movie to be shown

Hilltop Christian Fellowship will show the movie “The Best of Camp Wannahockalugie 2012” on Friday at 7 p.m.  

The youths had an exciting year at camp and want to share these special moments with their family, friends and community.

Even if you were not able to attend camp this year, you might want to come and see all the fun the campers had and maybe you can join them next year. 

Barb and Friends will also be on hand sharing their puppet ministry with special lighting, black lights, Bible lessons, dramas and skits.  

Light snacks will be served at the conclusion of the event.  The community is invited. Hilltop is at 12624 Trinity Church Drive in Clear Spring.
