'Drop 10 in 10' weight-loss classes planned in Martinsburg, W.Va.

August 18, 2012

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. ¿ — Drop 10 in 10 is a 10-week weight-management program designed to help participants lose 10 pounds or 10 percent of their weight through a program of balanced nutrition, sensible activity and meaningful lifestyle changes.

Drop 10 in 10 is designed to help individuals move away from the all-or-nothing mentality of fad dieting to the philosophy of making meaningful and long-lasting nutrition, exercise and lifestyle changes.

Studies show that reducing weight by 10 percent can reduce risk or improve the management of chronic disease associated with excess weight, such as high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes.  Studies also show that people are more successful when they team up for weight loss. This class provides the group support and encouragement needed for a successful weight-loss program.

Participants receive a Drop 10 in 10 Participant Kit which includes a Drop 10 in 10 Guide Book, Daily Food and Fitness Journal, tape measure and resistance band.

One session will be offered at 6 p.m. Mondays, Sept. 17 to Nov. 26, in the second floor conference room of the McCormack Center on the campus of City Hospital. Another session will be offered Wednesdays, Oct. 3 to Dec. 12, in the first floor classroom of Jefferson Memorial Hospital.

There is no fee or facility membership required for Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield members (with the exception of Federal Plan) to participate in the Drop 10 in 10 and  a nominal fee for non-Highmark members who sign up. There is a $20 materials fee for all participants. The professional staff at WVUH-East has been trained by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield to administer this weight management program.
