Washington County Salary Study Commission to hold public hearing Tuesday

August 17, 2012

The Washington County Salary Study Commission will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, Aug. 21, at 6 p.m., in Room 225 of the County Administration Building at 100 W. Washington St. in Hagerstown, for the purpose of receiving public comment.

By state law, the salary study commission has the duty of studying the salaries of the Washington County Commissioners, elected members of the Board of Education, the Orphans’ Court judges, the sheriff, the treasurer and the Board of License Commissioners (liquor board).

A public hearing is required to receive public comment. The commission then formulates recommendations as to whether the studied salaries should be decreased, increased or remain the same. Depending on the position, the Washington County Commissioners or the Delegation to the General Assembly then takes final action on the recommendations, the county said in an emailed release.

Any county residents wishing to comment at the public hearing will have the opportunity to be heard, the release said.
