URBANA, Md. — The identities of two people who died as the result of a serious vehicle crash Sunday on Interstate 270 near Urbana were released Thursday, according to a Maryland State Police news release.
The driver of the vehicle, Tracy Ann Reuschel, 60, of Gaithersburg, Md., is believed to have died instantly when the 2009 Subaru Impreza that she was driving collided with the back of a tractor-trailer in the southbound lanes of I-270 just north of Bennett Creek, troopers said.
The passenger in the Subaru was Reuschel’s husband, James Henry Reuschel, 64, who was flown to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center with serious injuries. He died Tuesday from his injuries, troopers said.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, Charles H. Cooke, 68, of Hampton, Va., was not injured in the crash, police said.
According to witnesses, Tracy Reuschel was driving at a high rate of speed shortly after 3 p.m. when the vehicle struck the rear of the tractor-trailer, which was in the right lane of travel, troopers said.
Maryland State Police in Frederick, Md., is handling the investigation.
