Dewey E. Harvey, 97, of Smithsburg, Md., passed away Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, at Julia Manor Health Care of Hagerstown.
Born Oct. 24, 1914, in Kitzmiller, Md., he was the son of the late George W. and Grace M. (Rawlings) Harvey.
He graduated from high school in Keyser, W.Va.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He was an electrician by trade, retiring in August 1979.
He was a member of Christ United Church of Christ in Cavetown, Md. and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers of Washington, D.C.
He is survived by his children, Carolyn Smith and husband, Steve, of Waynesboro, Pa., George "Bud" Harvey and wife, Donna, of Smithsburg, Philip Harvey and wife, Tambry, of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Celena McNairn of Hagerstown; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his companion of many years, Rachel "Dolly" Leggett; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mabel Burkenbaugh and Elizabeth Richards; and one brother, J. Thomas Harvey.
Services will be Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Christ United Church of Christ, Cavetown, with Pastor Carol D. Hallman officiating. Burial will be in Cavetown Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg.
