Pa. school of music announces fall class schedule

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. ¿ — Cumberland Valley School of Music will offer select classes on Saturdays starting this fall in Chambersburg and Waynesboro, Pa. 

CVSM Saturday classes being offered this fall include:

•  Musikgarten —  All Together Now (newborn to 3 years old): Activities involving parents or caregivers include bouncing and rocking songs, finger plays, dances, games and more. Musikgarten is an internationally recognized leader in early childhood music education that helps children develop a deep love of music and the ability to express it.

•  Musikgarten Music Makers (4 to 7 years old): Students learn to sing more tunefully and to express various styles of music and refine finger control in preparation for instrument playing.

•  Piano sampler (students in grades first through third): Students learn the basics of piano using digital Yamaha keyboards. This class is limited to a maximum of five beginning students.

•  Singing is Primary (students in grades first through third): Children will learn Broadway, Disney, folk as well as silly songs.

•  Sight reading skills for Instrumentalists (teens and adults): Students learn to combine sight reading skills for better instrument playing. This class is especially useful for those auditioning for District Band and Orchestra.

•  Beginning guitar class (teens and adults): Students learn tuning, first position melody and chords in a group setting. This class is offered in Waynesboro.

•  Music therapy group session (age 10 and older): CVSM certified music therapists and faculty members, Brian Helman and Eric Fisak, use music to help clients improve cognitive functioning, motor skills, emotional development, behavior and social skills. Clients participate in singing, movement, physical activities, improvisation, imagery, performance, and other exercises to achieve treatment goals and objectives.

The CVSM Community String Orchestra and the CVSM Community Symphonic Band invite experienced musicians of all ages who would like to join, rehearse and perform in concerts throughout the year. The next CVSM Community String Orchestra concert will be held Tuesday, Nov. 6. The CVSM Community Symphonic Band will perform Saturday, Jan. 27. Participation is free.
