Two charged with selling cocaine from Maugansville home

August 09, 2012

MAUGANSVILLE, Md. — A man on home detention was arrested this week on allegations that he and a woman were selling drugs from their home, according to Washington County District Court records.

Asaler L. Pointer, 41, and Tiffany Ann Mowery, 31, of 13813 Village Mill Drive, were arrested Monday after Washington County Narcotics Task Force agents conducted a search of the house. The search was based on sales of cocaine to a confidential informant, the statement of probable cause said.

Pointer and Mowery each are charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, criminal conspiracy to distribute cocaine, maintaining a common nuisance for the distribution of narcotics, cocaine possession and firearms violations. Mowery also is charged with distribution of cocaine.

Agents began investigating the couple in July after a controlled purchase of cocaine was made at the house, the charging document said. Subsequently, an informant made purchases from Mowery outside two fast-food restaurants on Maugans Avenue on Aug. 1 and 6, the document said.

Agents saw Mowery leaving her house before the drug buys, and she was arrested after the Aug. 6 purchase, the charging document said. Pointer was arrested when agents found him in the search of the house, the document said.

Agents found more than an ounce of cocaine in the house, along with drug paraphernalia and a loaded handgun with extra ammunition, the charging document said.

Pointer has at least three previous drug convictions in Maryland, the last being a 2010 conviction in Washington County for possession of marijuana that resulted in a one-year jail sentence, court records said. Mowery also has past drug convictions in the county, court records said.

Pointer is being held on $400,000 bond and Mowery on $300,000 bond, court records said. They are scheduled for preliminary hearings on Sept. 4, court records said.
