Mail Call - Aug. 8

August 08, 2012

“Congratulations to the PONY League 13 All-Stars for making it to the World Series in California. Feel proud, as finishing third with eight teams is quite a feat.”

— Hagerstown

“Kudos to PONY League 13 All-Stars. You get the bronze for coming in third. Way to go.”

— Hagerstown

“I attended the Clear Spring carnival Monday night, and I have never seen a country band as good as this one, that was W.T. Fleming and No Fences. And my brother-in-law was there at the carnival, and he just came back from Branson, Mo., and he said he didn’t see anything down there that was as good as these guys were. Now that’s doing something.”

— Maugansville

“I was wondering why the North High Band Boosters and the Washington County Junior Girls Volleyball received money from the Washington County gaming fund distribution. Couldn’t they have fundraisers, like the other schools? I’m just curious.”

— Hagerstown

“I’ve been reading the negative comments from some of the community members of Fairplay. I think I can solve the problem. Why don’t all of the people concerned volunteer? They seem to be very involved, but why not in a positive way? Some people would rather complain about a problem than work to fix it. I can’t believe people have enough nerve to complain about volunteers who are willing to sacrifice their life to save yours. Come on, people of Fairplay, get off the couch, and you can be part of the solution, and make your community safe again.”

— Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

“Williamsport beer blast at River Bottom will be 10 times worse than Bike Nite disaster, with more trash, more beer, more problems, louder music and a lot more people. I guess Williamsport wants to be like Hagerstown, which can’t have an event unless they have beer. Another drunken party by Councilman Bill Green. This is a longtime, upset resident.”

— Williamsport

“I’m calling about the accidents on Sharpsburg Pike. There’s been two accidents in a week’s time, hitting houses on the Sharpsburg Pike. Don’t you get the message that there is, people are traveling too fast on the ... through Tilghmanton? I live on Manor Church Road, and by the time you look each way, the cars are down through Tilghmanton, driving at too great a speed. Please get the people who are speeding through Tilghmanton.”

— Washington County

“Perhaps with all the activity concerning the Civil War at this time, you could publish Walt Whitman’s ‘Come Up From the Fields, Father,’ to demonstrate the devastating effect on the people at home.”

— Mercersburg, Pa.
