Bettie Rosalie Hyssong, 91, of 16505 Virginia Ave., Williamsport, Md., and formerly of Leitersburg, Md., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, at Meritus Medical Center.

Born Wednesday, July 27, 1921, in Hagerstown, Md., she was the daughter of the late Jacob Guy Shadrach and the late Rose (Smith) Shadrach.

She graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1940 and attended Hagerstown Business College.

She was first employed with the American Fruit Growers Association for nine years, and later employed with the U.S. Postal Service, where she was the first female rural mail carrier in this area. She retired after 19 years of service.

Bettie was a devoted member of Christ's Reformed Church, where she was very active in many aspects of the church. She also was involved in the Elks Club and ballroom dancing, where she helped to organize and decorate for the many dances that were held.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, John Robert Hyssong, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Nelda Kearns; and brothers, Ellis, Chester, Donald and William Shadrach.

Services will be Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd.North, Hagerstown, with the Rev. Gregg Meserole and the Rev. Don Stevenson officiating.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, from 9:30 to 11 a.m.

Interment will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christ's Reformed Church, Aspiring to Serve Inc., 140 W. Franklin St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.
