HAGERSTOWN — Michael Foltynewicz outpitched Brian Rauh as the Lexington Legends beat the Hagerstown Suns 3-1 on Monday night at Municipal Stadium.

It was the third straight loss for the Suns, who remained a game behind first place in the South Atlantic League North Division second-half standings.

Foltynewicz (13-3), the Legends’ starter, pitched six shutout innings, allowing two hits and four walks while striking out seven in the victory.

Rauh (1-2) also went six innings in the loss, allowing two runs, two hits and two walks while striking out five.

Lexington took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Delino DeShields drew a leadoff walk, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on Nolan Fontana’s groundout.

The Legends went up 2-0 in the second. Brandon Meredith led off with a single, went to second on a balk, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a groundout.

Lexington extended its lead to 3-0 in the eighth against Suns reliever Christian Meza. Justin Gominsky was hit by a pitch to start the inning. He went to third on a single by Christian Moronta and scored on a single by DeShields.

But after walking Fontana to load the bases with no outs, Meza escaped further damage, getting Zach Johnson to ground into a 5-2-3 double play before striking out Matt Duffy.

Hagerstown threatened in the ninth against Legends closer Dayan Diaz. Adrian Nieto drew a two-out walk, went to second on a single by Brett Newsome and scored on a single by J.R. Higley.

But with the tying runs on base, Diaz struck out Carlos Alvarez to end the game.
