CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — A Fayetteville, Pa., man remained hospitalized in critical condition Monday morning at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pa., following a Friday accident on Interstate 81 Friday, according to a Pennsylvania State Police news release.

Ryan Michael Benshoff, 18, of Fayetteville, was driving a 2000 Honda Accord south on I-81 near Chambersburg at around 1 p.m. Friday when the car hit the driver’s side passenger door of a 2006 Nissan Murano that also was heading south, state police said.

Then the Honda went through the center median and entered the northbound lanes of I-81, where the Honda was hit in the area of the passenger side door by a 2009 Chevrolet Impala, state police said. The Chevy was heading north on I-81 in the area of Greene Township, state police said.

Benshoff was flown to Hershey Medical with severe injuries, state police said.

The Chevy’s driver, Thomas A. Palmeri, 26, of New York, was taken to Chambersburg Hospital with minor injuries, state police said.

A Chambersburg Hospital spokeswoman said Monday she had no information for a patient by that name.

The driver of the Nissan sport utility vehicle, Andrew K. Tulloch, 49, of New York, was not injured, state police said.
