She lived in Hagerstown, Md., for many years before moving to Winchester, Va., with her husband of 36 years, F.W. “Whitey” Whitehead, where they operated Whitey’s Twin Diner for several years. The family then moved to Palm Beach County, Fla., and operated Whitey’s Super Market until 1962, before retiring and moving back to the Hagerstown area.

Brother, Oscar Grove, preceded her in death, as did sisters, Bertha Guessford, Ethel Shantz and Alice Davis.

Estella was well-known for her southern-style cooking and her “award-winning” homemade breads, jellies and canned peaches. She also enjoyed needlepoint, embroidery and other needle craft, for which she won many awards and ribbons.

Family will receive friends Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. The family will conduct a private graveside service the following morning at 10 a.m.
