John Lee Warnes, of Waldorf, Md., and formerly of Hagerstown, Md., died Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at the Genesis Healthcare Center in La Plata, Md. He was 65 years old.
Born March 19, 1947, in Kingston, Pa., he was the son of the late Dorothy L. and the late Leonard J. Warnes.
Mr. Warnes was an aircraft mechanic for more than 30 years with the 201st D.C. National Guard at Andrews Air Force Base in Camp Springs, Md. A retired master sergeant with the U.S. Air Force with 32 years of service, Mr. Warnes was a member of the Tri-County Cruisers Car Club, owning a 1965 Ford Thunderbird convertible.
He loved antique cars and fishing. He was a military history buff and enjoyed model trains.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Anita Warnes; his son, Erik J. Warnes and his fiancée, Kaitlyn Ott, of Waldorf; and his sister, Susan Yoder and her husband, Larry, of Williamsport, Md.
Family will receive relatives and friends Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012, from 5 p.m. until the time of the memorial service, which will begin at 7 p.m. at Raymond Funeral Service, P.A., 5635 Washington Ave., La Plata, MD 20646 (301-934-2920).
Interment will be Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Cheltenham, Md., at 2 p.m., with military honors.
