Opening date: April 6, 2012

Products and services: Nursing case management services/nutritional health coaching, providing individualized tools and support for rapid and permanent weight loss, including several programs offering services to achieve weight loss of up to 30 pounds in 30 days. We also offer ancillary services to include initial and ongoing nutritional and health assessments, personalized nurse case-management support and health/nutrition coaching, nutrition and cooking classes, exercise programs and community support groups. In addition, we offer a collaborative approach to wellness by offering obesity counseling services at primary care and family medicine locations. This program provides a free service to Medicare-eligible patients if their body mass index is over 30. It is Stepping Stone Health’s vision to provide this community service, placing nurse case managers/health coaches in the neighborhoods in which they live and work and play. It is our hope to provide patients with the necessary “stepping stones” for better health through weight loss, education and support.

Target market: Anyone wishing to pursue an integrative medical and holistic approach to weight loss and optimal health, including the patients, the medical community and physicians who treat them.

How did you get into your business, and what motivated you to start it? I have been a registered nurse for 31 years. My experiences include hospital, home health, occupational health and case management. In these various roles, I have seen firsthand the devastating effects of obesity on my patients’ health. I also bring a personal message to my patients. I have also struggled with weight issues and the subsequent medical problems associated with being overweight. By first utilizing the weight-loss tools myself, and seeing and feeling so much better, I decided it was time to “pay it forward” for my patients and for my community.

Previous business experience: I have developed and implemented several new case-management products for the companies for which I worked over the past 10 years.
