Birthday celebration

When you are 99 years young, you celebrate every day and the members of Ebenezer AME Church wanted to show (Aunt) Grace Snively how much they appreciate her and her dedication as a member of Ebenezer for 69 years.

The congregations helped her celebrate her 99th birthday Sunday, July 29, after the 11 a.m. morning worship.

She shared her moment with the Rev. Leroy Jackson, who also celebrated his birthday.

A luncheon complete with two birthdays cakes was served.

Much love, peace and many, many blessing to you, (Aunt) Grace Snively.

National Night Out

National Night Out is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, at Fairgrounds Park.

There will be many vendors offering numerous community services, There will be Zumba, a DJ, and free hot dogs and drinks for those who attend.

A free Child ID program which consists of digital fingerprints, video, photos and other information recorded on a CD and a DNA swab, will be available. All of this information is given to the parents to keep in case of an emergency.

A helicopter will land for display and there will be a police K-9 demonstration.

And to any of the community who are unable to make it out to the park, please turn on your porch lights in support of this community effort to reduce crime in the community.

Vacation Bible school at Second Christian Church

The Second Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 65 W. North Ave., will hold vacation Bible school from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 6 to 10.

This will be a time of learning about Jesus while having fun playing games and more. Attendees should bring their swimsuits.

Movie night

The Bridge of Life church’s movie night is at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at the church, 14 S. Potomac St.

Free popcorn and drinks will be provided. To find out the name of the movie, call 301-791-1674.

Bus trip

Two buses will take participants on the “For Our Kids’ Sake” bus trip to Dorney Park Saturday, Aug. 11.

While past years have had three buses to accommodate the sponsored youth, the directors say they greatly appreciate those who have donated to this venture, but they still need help. If you are interested in donating to the fund, call 301-739-2557 or make a contribution at any Columbia Bank, using Account No. 141518.

Vacation Bible school at Greater Campher Temple

The Greater Campher Temple, 125 Bethel St., will host vacation Bible school from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, to Friday, Aug. 17. Dinner will be served every night before the start of the program. The theme is Discipleship Camp, where you can become a follower and not a fan. VBS is open to children 3 years of age to adults.
