Mail Call - Aug. 3

August 02, 2012

“First, let me say that I am a 60-year-old heterosexual woman who’s been happily married for 38 years. This call is for the person comparing gay Scoutmasters to Jerry Sandusky. Could you possibly be any more ignorant or bigoted? To everyone else, enjoy your day.”
— Washington County

“I enjoyed the column by Tim Rowland on July 26, about Pen Mar/Fort Ritchie. It was very good, very tongue-in-cheek and, I think, right to the point. But also Mr. Rowland, if you have any serious suggestions for what to do with Pen Mar and how to do it, it would really be appreciated. But once again, Mr. Rowland, you hit the nail on the head there.”
— Washington County

“The presidential election in November should be a no-brainer. If you want your country back, your morals back, everything good about America, you’ll vote for Romney. If you’re satisfied with the way things are going, you’ll vote for the other person. I’m personally not satisfied, so I’m a big Romney fan. I don’t care how much money he’s got anywhere. Who of you that’s reading this wouldn’t like to have all that money?”
— Sharpsburg

“To the Big Pool caller: I very seriously doubt if you’re rich. Your mentality shows me there’s no way that you are. Rich people take opportunities and go with them, no matter if the, who the president is. Secondly, to the Hagerstown caller who says you can’t put a fox in a henhouse, by having a gay person in the Boy Scouts. All gays are not pedophiles. Pedophilia is a totally different thing from being gay ... lastly, to the callers that keep complaining about voter ID, saying you should have it: It discriminates against people that are poor and can’t get a driver’s license, so — and you have to pay for them. So you people don’t understand.”

“This to the Waynesboro caller that said the question was answered about Romney’s sons not being in the military. That’s old news. I’d like to know what part of the service that President Obama served in. I’m sure he was a good citizen and served in one of our services.”
— Clear Spring

“President Obama has run the same ad day after day, of Mitt Romney singing ‘America,’ with the message of the jobs sent to other countries. Perhaps the president feels he must replay this message over and over due to the lack of understanding of those who follow him. Does he feel they could not remember this message the first 10,000 times he gave it?”
— Hagerstown

“I have to have my birth certificate, my marriage license, any divorce papers that I have, my husband’s death certificate, two proofs of purchase, two proofs of where I live at, if I want to get my driver’s license renewed here in the state of West Virginia — and I am a bonafide American citizen. Why do I have to prove, have all this to prove who I am, to get my driver’s license renewed, when a illegal alien cannot even be stopped and asked if he has papers? Something’s very, very wrong here.”
— Falling Waters, W.Va.

“About this, the gun laws, the NRA and the gun laws, why do we have to have automatic weapons? How many people out there hunt with automatic weapons? That guy had an automatic weapon with a clip of a hundred bullets in it. Now, if he was using a single-shot rifle, he could have never have done that because the people would have knocked him down and disarmed him. So there you go.”
— Hagerstown

“I just happen to agree with your editorial today concerning Joe Paterno and the statue, about heroes and so on. It seems as though to me that this country has more heroes in it than Carter has liver pills, anyway. I feel if they’re going to erect a statue, they should make sure that the statue is gonna be there for ... but my thoughts concerning Jerry Sandusky’s sex abuse charges, what does that have to do with the football games that Penn State won? I don’t feel that’s right at all.”
— Greencastle, Pa.

“The reason why I’m calling, I also thought that Mr. Ridenour was very arrogant in his statements, and I thought that he treated Karen Harshman very rudely. Karen Harshman, I voted for you. You have my support.”
— Hagerstown

“I guess we have to remember, the road to hell is paved with good intentions, and now that President Obama has figured out that the 47 percent that don’t pay any income taxes are his followers, he’s luring the middle class, as the Pied Piper president he is. So just beware out there, middle class, or you won’t have a country to come back to when he takes you into his wonderland.”
— Hagerstown
