Civil War workshops for kids offered in Chambersburg

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — This summer, children ages 7 to 13 will have an opportunity to learn about Civil War life on Saturday mornings in August.

Participants will learn about slavery, daily life and military life during the Civil War. Adults are welcome to attend.

The interactive workshops will take place Aug. 4, 11 and 18 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Old Jail, 175 E. King Street in Chambersburg.

The workshops are free and are being sponsored by the Franklin County Historical Society — Kittochtinny and Franklin County Visitors Bureau.

Roads to be closed for pipe replacement

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — The following Franklin County roads will be closed to all traffic for pipe replacement in August, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said in a news release:

  • Appleway Road between St. Thomas-Edeneville Road and Diehl’s Wood Road in St. Thomas Township from Aug. 6 to 10.
  • Mercersburg Road between Pa. 16 and Shimpstown Road in Montgomery Township from Aug. 6 to 10.
  • Warm Spring Road between Stone Bridge Road and Guitner Road in Hamilton Township from Aug. 13 to 17.
