American Legion to hold steak feed

The Clear Spring American Legion is holding a steak feed on Aug. 10 at the American Legion picnic grounds. The doors open at 6 p.m. Food will be served until it is sold out. Tickets cost $15 per person. Proceeds benefit veterans and local youth programs. Advance tickets are available at the Clear Spring American Legion bar. There are a limited number of tickets, so buy early.

Reading club celebration set for Aug. 8 at library

The Clear Spring Library will hold an endof- summer reading club celebration on Wednesday, Aug. 8, at 3:30 p.m. Join your friends at the party and celebrate your participation in the summer reading club. To sign up for the event, call 301-842-2730.

Teen overnight event planned for Aug. 11

“Own the Night Teen Overnighter” will be held at the Clear Spring Li­brary from Saturday, Aug. 11, at 8 p.m. to Sunday, Aug. 12, at 7 a.m. This is an all-night event for teens in grades nine through 12.

Activities will include gaming systems, board games, minute-to-win-it games, movies, pizza and snacks.

Big Pool Bible vacation school scheduled

The Big Pool Community Vacation Bible School will be held at Parkhead Fellowship Hall, 9512 National Pike, in Big Pool.

This year’s theme is “Babylon — Daniel’s Courage in Captivity.” The school will be held Aug. 12 to 16 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. There will be a closing picnic on Friday, Aug. 17. All are welcome.

Did you know that during World War I, Clear Spring had a community room that provided a place of recreation for soldiers who were stationed at the Clear Spring Proving Grounds? They canned many quarts of vegetables and fruits that were sent to various camps for soldiers. The room was also used for letter writing, reading and playing games.
