At the June meeting of Morris Frock Unit 42, American Legion Auxiliary, the 2012 scholarship recipients and their parents were guests at a dinner in their honor.

The unit held several fundraisers during the year in order to be able to award scholarships to students from the area, half of whom are entering the medical field and the other half of whom are pursuing other fields of study.

This year, there were nine students who were chosen to receive the scholarships.

The five students who are freshmen this year received $300 scholarships and the four students who are upperclassmen in their universities received $500 scholarships.

The scholarships were presented by Elizabeth Getz, education chairwoman, and Marilyn Hembrock, outgoing president.

The students who received the scholarships were Timothy Barr, Hagerstown Community College; Brent Goebel, University of Maryland Baltimore County; Andrew Monninger, Shippensburg University; Taylor Spickler, Frostburg State University; Sarah Stayer, St. Mary’s College of Maryland; Bethany Garnand, Lycoming College; Annette Hull, University of Richmond; Quinton Hull, Penn State University; and Jena Smith, Frostburg State University.
