Man assaulted in Waynesboro Mall Parking lot

July 27, 2012

WAYNESBORO, Pa. — Police were looking Friday for two men who allegedly assaulted a man as he sat in his car in the Waynesboro Mall parking lot off East Main Street.

According to Waynesboro Police, the incident occurred at 601 E. Main St., shortly after midnight Wednesday.

Police have not released the identity of the victim.

Police said they were called to the Waynesboro Hospital emergency room, where they met the victim, who sustained numerous injuries to his face after being hit and kicked.

The man also sustained several knife slashes to his arm, police said.

The victim told police he went for a drive and pulled into the Waynesboro Mall parking lot to “sit and relax for a while,” according to a police report of the incident.

When the victim turned off his truck and put down the windows, he placed the truck keys in his front pants pocket, police said.

The victim said two males approached his truck from the north and asked him for a ride, police said.

The assailants then opened the truck’s driver’s side door, grabbed the man and pulled him out of the truck, and began punching him in the head, police allege.

While the males were assaulting the victim, they were yelling at him to give them his truck keys and wallet, police said in the report.

The victim said he was trying to “cover up and defend himself” while reaching in his pants pocket to hold on to his truck keys and wallet, police said.

Police said the victim used his right hand to pull one of the assailants’ hands out of his pocket when the man pulled a knife on him, slashing his right wrist several times.

Police allege both assailants fled on foot west across the parking lot yelling at the victim that they were going to “go get their gun and kill him.”

The victim got himself up, got into his truck and drove back to his house, police said. His wife drove him to the hospital, police said.

According to police, the first assailant was described as a tall, slender black male with a dark complexion. The second assailant was described as a black male of average height with a stocky build and a dark complexion.

Police said both assailants, believed to be in their 20s, were wearing their hair in shoulder-length dreadlocks. Both wore jeans and polo shirts with a horizontal, colored pattern.

Anyone with information about the incident may call Waynesboro Police at 717-762-2131.
