Dance class has recital

Dance class has recital

The Sumans Avenue dance class from Ballet and All that Jazz ended its season recently with a recital at The Maryland Theatre. 

The class has been together since 1999, meeting at the Hagerstown Housing Authority’s Sumans Avenue Community Building each Saturday morning.

The dance directors are preparing for the fall class, which will begin Saturday, Sept. 8. The classes are free to students between the ages of 4 through high school graduation.

Health seminar

The community is invited to participate in a “Conversation on Better Health for Blacks” to be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at theMartin Luther King Jr.Community Center in Hagerstown.

Talking points for the “All Talk” segment of this conversation will include:

  • “What is being done to ensure healthy lifestyles for blacks?”
  • “What can blacks do to improve their health?”
  • “What is health equity?”
  • “What is your local health department doing to improve public health?”

The event is sponsored by the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Community Transformation Grant initiative.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center (North Street School building) is at 131 W. North Ave. in Hagerstown.

‘Yappy’ hour

Wolf Furniture, at 900 Premium Outlets Blvd., will hold a “Yappy” Hour for dog owners and their dogs Friday, Aug. 3, from 5 to 9 p.m. 

“Yappy” Hour will feature “yappertizers,” special events and vendors (for both dog owners and their dogs), free photos, a free doggie goodie bag and a free gift for visiting.  The community is invited. Well-behaved dogs could also win a prize.

A portion of the day’s proceeds will benefit the Humane Society of Washington County.
