HAGERSTOWN — Matthew Skole’s two-out single to right scored Caleb Ramsey with the winning run in the 10th inning, and the Hagerstown Suns won their third straight game, 5-4, over the Lakewood BlueClaws on Monday at Municipal Stadium.
The Suns (60-40, 18-13) won the first game of the four-game series to remain tied with Hickory atop the Northern Division second-half standings. The BlueClaws (43-57, 17-14) fell a game back.
Facing Lakewood reliever Austin Brough (0-1), Ramsey led off the 10th with a single. He took second on Bryce Ortega’s groundout to second before scoring on Skole’s third hit of the game.
Colin Bates (5-3) got the win in relief for Hagerstown, allowing one hit in two scoreless innings.
Lakewood took a 1-0 lead in the third on doubles by Brock Stassi and Gabriel Lino off Hagerstown starter Blake Schwartz, who was making his Suns debut. The BlueClaws made it 2-0 in the fourth on Maikel Franco’s solo home run.
Hagerstown tied the game at 2 in the bottom of the fourth off Lakewood starter Hoby Milner on four straight singles by J.R. Higley, Angelberth Montilla, Ramsey and Billy Burns, the last two driving in runs.
The Suns took a 3-2 lead in the fifth on Skole’s South Atlantic League-leading 22nd home run of the season.
The BlueClaws answered in the sixth on Aaron Altherr’s solo shot to tie the game at 3.
Lakewood took a 4-3 lead in the seventh off Hagerstown reliever Gregory Holt. Franko led off with a single and later scored on Cutter Dykstra’s throwing error while trying to turn a double play at second.
The Suns tied it at 4 in the bottom of the seventh off Zach Cooper. Skole led off with a single, stole second, took third on a wild pitch and scored on Justin Miller’s single after Dykstra walked.
