Mail Call - July 24

July 23, 2012

“There has been a scam going around in Martinsburg, because West Virginia has been declared a disaster state because of the storm, couple weeks ago. It (has been going around) that FEMA was going to pay light bills in that area, and ... we now have found out that it’s a scam. So would you please put that in the paper, telling people in Martinsburg and West Virginia not to fall for it?”
— Falling Waters, W.Va.

“You have to wonder what Mitt Romney is hiding. He doesn’t want to release his tax returns, and just how many accounts does he have in offshore tax havens?”
— Waynesboro, Pa.

“Thanks to The Herald-Mail and Channel 6, I can now get a current weather report anytime I want one. Bye, bye, Weather Channel.”
— Hagerstown

“I’m reading in the paper (about) all these people complaining about Mitt Romney not releasing his tax returns. He’s released two years, but if he released three, they’d want four, if he released four, they’d want five. Where were these same people when President Obama would not release his birth certificate when he was running? Certainly a birth certificate is as much a document for everybody to understand than a tax return is. A tax return is complicated, and often needs more explanation than just the numbers on the piece of paper.”
— Smithsburg

“Just wondering why President Obama supporters want Mitt Romney’s tax returns. After all, he’s one of the 50 percent that actually pay taxes. They want answers, but why don’t they demand on Fast and Furious, or all the loans to the green companies that went belly up because they support Obama? We can’t get answers on the security leaks that came from the White House, showing what a great leader ... I don’t care what Mitt Romney made on his income taxes. I’m more concerned about the people who don’t pay any taxes.”
— Hagerstown

“Mitt Romney claims his father was his hero. Well, why doesn’t Mitt Romney follow in his father’s footsteps, and release 12 years of federal tax returns, like his father did when he was running for president? That would be a good idea.”
— Waynesboro, Pa.
