One person was taken to the hospital Monday after a scooter accident in the 6300 block of Old National Pike, according to Trooper Hegedus of the Maryland State Police.

The driver of the scooter, who was heading west on Old National Pike, hit the guardrail, Hegedus said.

The driver of the scooter was taken to Meritus Medical Center, Hegedus said.

Old National Pike residents witnessed the 11:57 a.m. accident.

Clint Remines, 18, said he saw the scooter hit the guardrail and flip over.

“The moped bounced into the middle of the road,” he said.

Remines said he called 911 and put a towel over the driver.

Katlyn Mayhew said, “My first thought was, ‘I hope he’s all right,’” she said.

The scooter was towed, and part of it was broken where it hit the guardrail.
