SMITHSBURG — Youngsters can show their patriotism and get free ice cream as part of the “I Pledge” Project at Misty Meadow Farm Creamery in Smithsburg.

The program, launched by Leopold’s Ice Cream in Savannah, Ga., rewards those 12 and younger who recite the Pledge of Allegiance from memory with a free ice cream cone.

Stratton Leopold, owner and operator of Leopold’s Ice Cream, is recruiting fellow ice cream shop owners across America to take part in the “I Pledge” campaign to promote patriotism among children and to celebrate July as National Ice Cream Month.

Misty Meadow Farm Creamery offered the free ice cream reward from July 1 to 4, and is continuing to offer it on Mondays through July to children who can recite the pledge from memory.

The creamery, at 14230 Misty Meadow Road, is open Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday, 1 to 9 p.m. For more information, call 301-824-2112.
