CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — The Hagerstown PONY 13-A All Stars scored three runs in the first two innings to earn a victory over Albany in the first round of the East Zone Tournament.

In the first, Bryce Ruppenthal had an RBI double to drive home Myles Nicholson, who had walked. After Mitchell Wilson singled, Ryan Downes drove in Ruppenthal with an RBI single.

Hagerstown scored an insurance run in the second when Gage Kyler doubled and scored on a fielder’s choice by Levi Taylor.

Wilson and Ruppenthal combined on eight strikeouts and Ruppenthal threw three innings of scoreless one-hit relief to pick up the save.

Hagerstown advances to the winners’ bracket final today at 5:30 p.m. and will play the winner of this morning’s Cranberry Township-Western Branch (Va.) game.

PONY Sectional Tournament

Hagerstown PONY League will host the PONY Sectional Tournament this weekend at Funkhouser Park.

The single-elimination tournament begins tonight at 6 p.m. when Hagerstown B plays Chambersburg, followed by South Adams and Hagerstown A at 8.

Game times for Sunday have not been finalized.

NABF World Series

Funkstown Skunks 4, Virginia Shamrocks 0

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Ryan Kinter fired a one-hit shutout with five strikeouts to lead Funkstown to a win over the Virginia Shamrocks.

Ryan Bolton had a two-run double and Josh Barron added an RBI double for Funkstown.

Funkstown’s scheduled first game Friday was postponed until today at 10 a.m.
