Mail Call - July 20

“I’m so sick of seeing all this poppycock about so-called Obamacare, when these people who are writing in the paper know nothing about it. Take the time, get on a computer and find out what Obamacare really is. If you’re listening to Republican propaganda and insurance company propaganda. Find out what it is for yourself.”

— Hagerstown

“I was in a local store last Friday evening, and a lady wanted to return a product and didn’t have a receipt. The cashier was doing her best to issue the credit. The lady kept screaming at the cashier, calling her names. This was very disruptive to the other customers in the store, as well as disrespectful to the cashier. I just wanted to say to the cashier, ‘Great job. You never lost your temper.’ I don’t know if I would have handled the situation the same. And to the lady returning the product: Shame on you.”

— Washington County

“Despite Supreme Court, Roberts’ mysterious change of heart, governors claim they are broke now. The government will get the money and then tax the states (all of us) to pay for what we cannot afford. Post office is bankrupt almost, Social Security, Medicare, our military is on a horseshoe budget. So they are going to control our health? Democrats don’t want to cut down on spending on ‘green,’ our enemies, campaign donors, so middle-class workers and wealthy will ‘continue’ to keep the poor.”

— Hagerstown

“Regarding the comments on oil drilling, it’s been reported by various sources that the U.S.’s No. 1 export was gasoline. So if we have enough gasoline to export to other countries, we’re obviously drilling enough. And the prices aren’t going to go down because the oil companies are happy with their record profits, and the Republicans will never take away their subsidies.”

— Hagerstown

“I really don’t get this. Something all Americans support in one way or another, the American Olympic team, their uniforms were made in China. I really can’t believe this.”

— Williamsport

“I do not have very much money, but I do have savings and investments. All of my money is invested here in Hagerstown, Md., United States of America. Unlike Mitt Romney, I do not have any money in the Cayman Islands or Switzerland. And I will not vote for a person who does.”

— Halfway

“We want to thank Pete Waters for that wonderful column that he had in the paper on Sunday. And it’s nice to hear about our local guy, Scott Fales, doing such a wonderful job and receiving this prestigious award.”

— Boonsboro

“This is regarding the roadwork that they’re doing on Alternate U.S. 40 and Garis Shop Road, Poffenberger Road. I would have thought that the first thing they would do before they tore the roads up and made two lanes into very two small lanes, at a very horrific intersection already, they would have cut the weeds. You can’t see when you’re pulling out. Please, state road workers, get out there and take care of it. Somebody’s going to get killed.”

— Boonsboro

“Your Sunday headline, ‘After recession, area businesses struggle,’ etc., etc., sounds like you think the recession is over. Look again. Net job increases a month are a hundred thousand below what’s needed to keep pace with the population growth, and have been for three-plus years. Unemployment is stagnant, at best. Unemployment participation is at an all-time low. Food and other prices are rising. ... Doesn’t sound or look like a recovery to me. Stop carrying the water for the prison administration. Try to be objective if you can, and don’t simply regurgitate what the AP or Reuters spew.”

— Hagerstown

“This is to ... the Frederick caller. We never said that you didn’t like the poor. We just, us liberals think you got the world upside down. You want to give corporations that make billions of dollars and billionaires more tax breaks, but you want to cut the school lunch programs for a kid that — a lot of kids, that’s how they get their food during the day. That’s all we’re saying, you got the world upside down. Liberals care about rich, poor and middle class. The Republicans care about rich, and everybody else, fend for yourself.”

— Hagerstown

“The people in this town are so negative about everything. Think outside of the box.”

— Hagerstown
