HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. — Police are looking for a man who displayed a firearm when he robbed a Hedgesville, W.Va., area business Thursday afternoon.

The suspect, a white male, is approximately 6 feet tall and weights about 200 pounds, West Virginia State Police said Friday in a news release.

The robber was wearing a purple T-shirt, camouflage pants, white running shoes, and a white fitted hat when he entered Mushroom Tobacco and Gifts at 147 Roaring Lion Drive and demanded money from a business employee, troopers said.

Trooper Z.L. Nine was contacted to investigate the armed robbery at 2:23 p.m., troopers said.

Police were told the robber’s face was concealed by pantyhose when he took about $180 from the business and then fled on foot before getting into a forest green sport utility vehicle.

The SUV, possibly a Jeep Liberty, turned onto W.Va. 9. and headed west, troopers said.

Police said a business employee who was in the parking lot saw the suspect running from the business and then followed the man west through the parking lot to an adjacent gravel parking lot, where he got into the apparent getaway vehicle, troopers said.

The firearm was in the suspect’s waistband, troopers said.

Anyone with information about the robbery may call Trooper Nine or Cpl. J.M. Walker at the West Virginia State Police Martinsburg detachment at 304-267-0001.
